about

These are recordings of four rare Frank Zappa compositions containing material that has never (at the time of this release) been officially released.

All of this music was written by Frank Zappa between 1963 and 1970, and transcribed and recorded by Adam Minkoff between 2018 and 2020.

GIRAFFE is a vocal tune only played once or twice in June, 1970 with Flo & Eddie singing. Presented here is an instrumental version as the lyrics are too hard to make out on the single bootleg recording of this song.

RUN HOME SLOW (suite) is a suite of beautiful cues from the 1965 Don Cerveris/Ted Brenner film "Run Home Slow" for which Zappa composed the score in 1963-64. None of this music has ever been released or heard outside of the film, and it was all transcribed from the film itself.

WHO NEEDS THE PEACE CORPS (1970 arrangement) is an unreleased instrumental arrangement of the Mothers song from "We're Only In It For The Money." This arrangement was performed a couple of times in May of 1970 at the Mothers "reunion" shows. It also contains a haunting re-melodization of "Duke Of Prunes," which was also originally part of the "Run Home Slow" score, before the classic version was released on "Absolutely Free" in 1967.

INTERLUDE is a mysterious instrumental performed a handful of times by The Mothers in 1968 and 1969, which then reappeared with the Hot Rats band in early 1970 as the coda to another unreleased piece called "Twinkle Tits." It showed up again in 1972 at rehearsals for the Grand Wazoo/Waka Jawaka albums but was never recorded or performed live by that ensemble. This recording is based on the live 1969 version.
